SALARY RANGE:  $26,346 to 34,429 Annually

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Fills pot holes and resurfaces roads.

Forms and pours concrete to construct or repair concrete streets and curbs.

Hauls rock for road resurfacing.

Operates heavy equipment (e.g. motor graders, dump trucks, loader, etc.)

Removes dirt, grass, leaves, and trash from catch basins and ditches.

Picks up trash in downtown area.

Checks to insure traffic signs are in place and in good condition; repairs or replaces street signs, stop signs, and other traffic signs.

Inspects trucks and other heavy equipment; ensures tools and supplies needed to perform assigned tasks are loaded on the truck.

Checks bridges and culverts for proper drainage.

Cuts brush and trees.

Paints parking spaces.

Maintains the City’s compost site.

Digs ditches.

Plows and hauls snow; spreads salt and chips on slick roads.

Blocks off streets for traffic control purposes during parades and other events.

Clears streets of limbs, brush, and other debris after storms.

Qualification Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years experience in road construction and maintenance.


A Commercial Driver’s License [CDL (B) with airbrakes].

Knowledge of:

Basic carpentry.

Concrete work.

Road construction, equipment, and materials.

Skilled in:

Interpreting diagrams.

Operating heave equipment and motor vehicles.

Using hand and power tools.

Using transits and other surveying and measuring equipment.

Communicating routine information and ideas to coworkers, supervisors, and other personnel.

Ability to:

Read and comprehend basic work instructions written in standard business English.

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide three digits or more.

Use common sense to carry out work instructions (problem-solving ability.)

Be thorough and accurate in inspecting work sites (attention to detail.)

Judge depth and distance (depth perception.)

See things clearly that are beyond arm’s reach (far visual acuity.)


Coordinate hand and foot movements with what is seen (eye-hand/eye-foot coordination.

Manipulate objects using the fingers and hands (finger dexterity and manual dexterity.)

Lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 lbs.

Stoop, bend, twist, or kneel to perform work activities.

Walk and climb.
